Client: LINGERING GARDEN (China)
Medium: Pen and ink,
Digital imaging (Photoshop, Illustrator)
Process: I sketched all the initial images of the cliffs and mountains traditionally, and then polished them using the digital software.
Project: the Lingering garden is one
of the most famous traditionally landscaped gardens in Suzhou, China. I developed a contemporary design to highlight the Chinese architecture style to a global client. The goal was to express the spiritual needs of the ancient Chinese intellectual in the modern atmosphere — The great hermit enjoys his solitude within a busier place.
Ancient Chinese intellectuals had a common dream to retire from their political lives and hide in an urban setting. They contributed to creating a garden of hills and trees as their retreat. They sought peace and immortality in their garden in order to escape from life and death.
I used a wall to express their desire to isolated from a busy city and enjoy solace in their garden. The use clouds represent the serenity and wonder inside.
